Frequently Asked Questions About 17-4PH Stainless Steel Castings
Backed by decades of experience, Bescast produces superior 17-4PH stainless steel castings. Our customers rely on our investment casting capabilities and expertise to create components that withstand the harshest conditions. Read on to learn more about 17-4PH stainless steel and our capabilities.
What Is 17-4PH Stainless Steel?
17-4PH stainless steel is a martensitic precipitation-hardened stainless steel. It contains iron, chromium, copper and nickel. 17-4PH stainless steel castings have excellent corrosion resistance because of the high levels of chromium, copper and nickel. They also can have higher strength and hardness than 15-5PH stainless steel castings.
What Is 17-4PH Stainless Steel’s Machinability?
17-4PH stainless steel’s machinability is good, although heat treating makes the material less machinable. At Bescast, machinability isn’t an issue because our investment casting process produces near-net shape parts with superior surface finishes. Our components require few secondary operations.
What Services Does Bescast Offer?
Bescast provides a full suite of design, engineering and prototyping services. We use ProCAST software with finite element analysis (FEA) to simulate casting processes and ensure the best 17-4PH stainless steel castings for your application. Bescast also offers heat treating, welding and non-destructive testing. Our strong relationships with partners in tooling creation, core design and production, coatings, painting, inspection services and other special processes give our customers a competitive edge.
